Feel Good Fridays: Getting A Move On!

Friday, May 1, 2020

Epilepsy Association of Calgary

Well, the sun is (finally!) shining and those of us who have been cooped up at home are eager to get out and (safely) enjoy a change of scenery. While we are cautioned to keep our social distance in the parks and on city pathways, there are still some great ways to get moving. No matter whether you are managing life with epilepsy or care about someone who is, leading an active lifestyle that is within your range of capabilities is a huge asset to both mental and physical well-being. Here are some of our favourites we’ve pulled together over the past month:

For the App Fanatic – check out the fitness free apps and YouTube channels from gentle yoga exercise on Do Yoga with Me to the more intense combo-flow on Down Dog HIIT, there is something for everyone at any age. Want something more tailored, or with a little more variety? Check out Nike Training Club, Fitness Blender or Well & Tight 6 Week Training Program and see how getting a move on improves everything from mood to sleep.

For the Gym Rat – right now many fitness clubs are demo-ing their wares online, offering trials free of charge so you can get an idea about whether a gym membership might be in your future. Using props and items you have at home in your workout, try YMCA 360, Planet Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness or the uber trendy Orange Theory Fitness. See whether it’s a match for you!

Got Moves like Jagger?  – while the clubs are closed (or local square dance night is temporarily called off) – whatever your scene – why not brush up on that Electric Slide or finally cross that pesky item off your bucket list by properly and once and for all learning how to floss? Check out Dance Magazine’s ideas or seek out a style you’re curious about from Zumba to Salsa to Hip Hop on YouTube. Practice makes perfect! And, you’ll be able to show off your new grooves at that next Zoom family get together, or in front of your pet. Whatever your comfort level!

No longer just your mama’s 20-Minute Workout, the choices are only as endless as your imagination. So, Let’s Get Physical! Push that furniture on outta the way and get your move (or groove) on.

Have an online fitness fav you want to share – we’d love to hear it!
